Liposuction Basic Information
By Joseph Then
Liposuction (aka Tummy Tuck) is a common plastic surgery procedure that is often used in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures. Liposuction is a surgical way to remove excess fat from the body.
The main idea of liposuction is not weight loss, but rather t sculpt the body. It works best in small areas where there is stubborn fat that a person would like removed.
Liposuction is done by using a tube, called a cannula that is hooked to a suction device. The tube is pushed under the skin where it sucks out the fat.
Liposuction can be done using different techniques. One technique called tumesclent liposuction which uses a liquefying agent that is injected into the area to be worked on. This agent helps to firm up the fat for quick and easy removal.
The amount of fat that can be removed during liposuction is limited. Removing too much fat can be dangerous. The blood loss can become too severe causing other health issues for the patient. Additionally, removing too much fat can cause dimpling.
Liposuction involves general anesthesia and is done in an operating facility. It is generally an outpatient procedure that does not require an overnight stay in the hospital or surgical facility. The risks involved are mainly associated with complications of anesthesia and blood loss.
Patients should be in overall good health and have tried alternative means to losing the unwanted weight. Surgeons recommend dieting and exercise before considering liposuction. All patients are advised that liposuction can only sculpt, not completely change the body.
Patients are also advised that if they do not have good skin tone, mainly skin that is elastic and easily bounces back into shape, that there results may not be as they expected. Further surgery may be needed to tighten skin if this is the case.
Liposuction requires a good surgeon. The surgeon is one of the main factors in getting good results. The surgeon has to determine how much fat to remove, how to remove the fat without causing too much bleeding and how to do the procedure while maintaining the patients health. By choosing a surgeon who is not experienced or certified a patient is opening the door for complications.
Liposuction is a common procedure and finding a good surgeon and getting good results is not to difficult. A person should be able to get a liposuction procedure that will satisfy them easily.
