Cosmetic Surgery for Men
By Nathalie Fiset
To be beautiful is practically what everybody desires. Our society regards looking young and staying fit as a top priority. In fact, not only women, but men of all ages and from practically every status aspire to have a better-looking face. In order for them to get their dream look, they resort to cosmetic surgery. Imagine, cosmetic surgery for men has already become a fad.
If you are a man considering cosmetic surgery, this article will help you contemplate the matter more. It may not answer all of your questions because your decision depends on your situation and circumstance. At least, when you read this article, you will know the important points in cosmetic surgery for men.
Plan your surgery thoroughly. Communicate with your plastic surgeon and know the benefits, advantages and conditions of going through the procedure. During your initial consultation, the surgeon will ask you to explain why you want to have surgery in the first place. Do not be conscious or feel awkward. Just tell him how you feel. You can also tell him the changes that you are expecting to see. You and your surgeon must be on the same level.
Your surgeon will check on your health. He will ask you to take a physical exam. He will also take a couple of pictures before your operation. These are appropriate so that you can compare these with the after-results. You have the right to tell your surgeon what makes you uncomfortable. You can even have a couple of privacy requests. But it is very necessary to be realistic when it comes to your expectations after the procedure. The surgeon can give you the improvement you are hoping for, but not maybe the perfection that you are dreaming of.
Also, your age and health are crucial factors in the results of the cosmetic surgery. If you are considering either facial surgery or neck surgery, the surgeon evaluates your head, neck and face. He'll check your hairline, your sideburns and your beard. That's because male facial skin has more blood supply than the female facial skin.
The surgeon also checks for scars before after the surgery, it is more difficult for men to hide these imperfections since they do not wear make-up. Neither do they style their hair to hide their faces, as many women do. The results of the facelift depend on hair and beard growth. If you are balding or your hair is thinning, then we suggest that you ask your surgeon to hide the incision for the facelift around the temple area. If your skin on your head is showing, you can ask your surgeon to pull it behind your ears when conducting the procedure. It is also necessary that you will have to shave your ears or the back of your neck.
For younger men, the chin is a primary concern. Liposuction is enough to correct this problem but for older patients, a full face or a neck lift is the remedy. Not only does it remove the excess skin, it also tightens the loose muscles underneath that are located on both sides of the neck. For men, these muscles are thicker than in their women counterpart. None of the parts mentioned above are a challenge for a credited and reputable plastic surgeon.
After the surgery, refinishing treatments are required. One must not shave for the next three weeks, especially after a chemical peel or dermabrasion. These skin-soothing treatments strop the skin's surface layers.
Men consider cosmetic surgery primarily because it gives them a more prominent look. They can opt for nose surgery, eyelid surgery and even facial-implant surgery.
It is also interesting to note that some men opt for body contouring or a procedure that is similar to liposuction. This shapes the body to be athletic-looking and trimmed, especially the chest, the abs, thighs and shoulders. When men age, the fat accumulates in the areas mentioned in the previous paragraph. The flanks are conscious spots for some men. Thus they resort to liposuction. Men who have hanging skin can also resort to surgical skin removal.
After cosmetic surgery, the patient must avoid alcohol for three to five weeks in order to achieve the best results. He must also follow the doctor's orders which include wearing the bandages, resting for a sufficient amount of time, steering clear of the sun, not smoking and avoiding stressful activities.
It's important that the man is physically and emotionally set on going through the entire procedure before signing any terms of agreement. Afterwards, he must get all the help he needs from loved ones and friends for a fast recovery.
