Normally the patient remains in hospital for several days, so that the incisions can start to heal and it can be confirmed that there are no major complications. Some patients are released on the same day, but this is unusual. You will need to avoid activities such as heavy exercising and driving until your recovery is complete, and your surgeon will provide you with that sort of information as part of your post-operative care.
It's common to feel discomfort and pain in the abdominal area after surgery, and pain medication is usually required to keep this under control. The total healing process, however, takes many months, and it's very important that you don't resume any physical activity before you are ready.
