The chin is one of the most noticeable and important features on a person’s face. Many times the nose and jaw line can be enhanced by changing the size of a person’s chin. Sculpting the chin can provide a more desired and attractive form, and extenuate other features of one’s face.
Chin implants are made in all sorts of sizes and shapes. They are created from solid and semi-solid materials and are made to look very natural. The surgeon will most likely examine your facial structure and discuss a personalized plan for what will fit best with your face. It is always best to have a clear discussion with your doctor as to what your expectations are before you go into surgery.
Generally a small incision is made inside the lower lip, just under the chin. An implant of a desired size is then placed within the chin. Removable sutures are used to close the wound. Occasionally the incision is made within the mouth and will later be closed with stitches. At the end of the procedure the chin is taped up to minimize swelling. The entire procedure takes around 30 to 60 minutes.
After the surgery has been performed there may be some swelling and bruising. Pain and discomfort may last for several days, but your doctor will prescribe you medicine to ease the pain. Some facial movements, such as talking and smiling may be difficult for a few days after the surgery.
